American families
There are several values that I've obtained after the interview from Americans. It seems American families wants their next generation to be independent in terms self support in financial, time management, decision making and so on. Younger generations are encouraged to have a part-time job so that they can have chances to build up their responsible and independence. Besides, I learned that most of the Americans family gather in the major events such as Thanksgiving day and Christmas. During these major events, family will talk about their life in campus, family stories with traditional meals. Another interesting point I found out is that the use of the name. All Americans will follow the patterns of their ancestors last name with different first name as well as middle name. Sometimes the new generation will receive either the first name or middle name from their parents or grandparents. Moreover, most Americans families encourage their children to take part extra-curricular activities so that children can learn things not only from the academics field but also outside of the class. Americans families will sometimes let their children do whatever they want to do in certain extent but somehow restrict their children with a little punishment and curfew. Indeed, this is a good opportunity to learn American culture, and I believe there will definitely have many values that I will find out in the next couple years in the United States.

You said that "Americans families will sometimes let their children do whatever they want to do in certain extent". In China, the situation is different. Parents limit their chldren a lot and want the children to do what they think is correct.
ReplyDeleteI think having a responsipility is very important for college students but Japanese students do not have it. This is one of the problems for us.
ReplyDeleteIn America, children are encouraged to jion social (outside class) activities, but in China, parents encourage children to do more homework, send them to the classes which out of school in order to let them get higher grades in school.
