Comparison of ethnicity.

As many social psychologists and sociologists claimed that the social prejudice and discrimination occurs around the world where different groups of people live in a society. As I watch through the video “on being black”, I found that there are many similarities happened in Malaysia when people are finding the job, having conversation with others, and in the school. The major ethnic groups in Malaysia are Malay, Chinese, and Indian whereas the minor groups; Nyonya, Kadazan, Iban, and so on. The issues of discrimination and prejudice are inevitable since different ethnic groups live in a small piece of territory. The United States had provided the equality of rights to every citizen so that African American and such minority groups can enjoy the human rights that they are unable to enjoy before. Back to Malaysia, people are still having the controversial that government are over-protected their ‘race’ as well as minority groups. As constitution in Malaysia stated, they have the privilege that provided by the government so that they received unequal treatment in terms of education, politic parties, business opportunity and so on. Compared with United States, people in Malaysia are hard to enjoy the equality of rights even though such major ethnic group had voice out their though, but eventually those ideas or proposals will be vetoed by the government.

  1. Personally, I believe that discrimination and prejudice is not inevitable because it's always a matter of convention. We are now in new phase of the world where we can initiate change. Let us help our nation to accept differences between cultures and just respect these for the nation to grow in one direction.

  2. It also happens in Indonesia, although we are protected by law that we will be equally treated the same, some people don't. I think the matter is in the people, not the law. We need to change the people to be better.
